A Legal Document Assistant is a non-attorney professional registered and regulated by California law (Bus. & Prof. Code §6400–6415) to prepare legal documents for members of the public who represent themselves in legal matters. Unlike an attorney, an LDA cannot give legal advice or represent you in court — but we can prepare the documents you need accurately and affordably, at your direction.
An attorney can advise you on what to do, represent you in court, and advocate on your behalf. I cannot do those things — but for many straightforward, uncontested matters, you may not need an attorney at all. If you know what you want and just need the paperwork done correctly, an LDA can save you thousands of dollars. If your case is disputed or legally complex, I'll be transparent about when you may need a lawyer.
Yes — uncontested divorces are one of our most common services. If you and your spouse agree on the key issues (property division, custody, support), we can prepare the complete set of documents required by the Orange County Superior Court. Many couples complete the process without ever needing an attorney, saving thousands in legal fees.
Mediation is a structured, voluntary process where a neutral third party (the mediator) helps both parties communicate and reach agreement on disputed issues. It's often faster, cheaper, and less adversarial than going to court. You do not need an attorney to participate in mediation, though you are always welcome to consult one. Once you reach an agreement, I can prepare the documents memorializing it.
We charge flat fees — not hourly rates — so you know exactly what you'll pay before we begin. Fees vary depending on the complexity and number of documents required. Yes. In addition to preparing your documents, we can assist you with organizing your filing package and provide guidance on where and how to submit documents to the Orange County Superior Court. You will be the one to file (since you are self-represented), but we'll make sure everything is in order before you do.
Not necessarily. We offer in-person consultations in Orange County as well as remote services via phone and email. Many clients complete everything without a single in-person visit. We also offer evening and weekend appointments for those with demanding work schedules.
Yes. We prepare wills, living trusts, advance healthcare directives, and powers of attorney based on the information and instructions you provide. Keep in mind that as an LDA, I prepare documents at your direction — I cannot advise you on estate planning strategy. For complex estates or if you have questions about what to include, a consultation with an estate planning attorney is recommended.
Yes, notary services are available. Many legal documents require notarization, and we can handle that as part of our service — saving you an extra trip.
Honesty is a core part of how I work. If your situation involves contested matters, complex asset disputes, allegations of domestic violence, or other issues beyond straightforward document preparation, I will tell you upfront and can refer you to attorney resources. I would rather be transparent than take a case that isn't the right fit for my services.
